About WildlifeDiversity

Why this website was developed

Wildlife Diversity was developed to fill a need for very basic information on what species could occur in an area and what species people should be looking for. There is nothing better than local inventory and population studies, but in their absence the lists provided by this website could be the best available information. At the very least, it gives government, industry, conservation organizations, or individuals a starting point of what species to watch out for, the potential of an area to support them, and what elements are needed to feed the wildlife community. It should assist in organizing more detailed studies, such as whether an area is large enough to support viable populations, or what impact proposed changes to the environment may have.

What this website can do

WildlifeDiversity searches for species in our database to provide a list of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians that could be in the area. There are two products:
  • A simple list of all potential species in an area, downloadable as a spreadsheet file. This is a free service. Use it as many times as you wish. No registration is required.
  • A more inclusive list of all potential species in an area, including common name, scientific name, family and type of animal, season of ocurrence, a population estimate, and a list of food items that could support the wildlife community. You will have to provide a list of habitat descriptions and their areas on the property of interest; detailed instructions are available. This is a fee-for-service product at USD$25.00 plus tax per query. Registration is required.
